The Carlile Institute
One of the classiest live acts on the UK’s acoustic roots scene, Jaywalkers create music that’s innovative and exhilarating but still deeply rooted in tradition, influenced by folk, bluegrass, Western swing, jazz, blues and more. In the last few years they have cemented their place as one of the most exciting, talented and entertaining young bands around, since reaching the finals of the BBC Young Folk Awards back in 2008.
With exceptional musicianship, stunning vocals and tasteful arrangements, this talented trio is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Their live set features a handful of blistering instrumentals, creative covers and traditional songs in addition to their top notch originals. Chief songwriter (and gifted mandolin maestro) Mike Giverin draws on stories and poetry from his home county of Lancashire for many of his compositions. In Jay Bradberry, the band has a truly great singer, and superb fiddle player. Lucille Williams specialises in impressive slap bass in addition to all-round rock solid tone and timing.
Despite their youth, Jaywalkers have been working and gigging constantly for many years, honing their craft and simply getting better and better. We’re longstanding fans of the band here at True North Music and we’re delighted to have booked them for our live music series in Meltham! The Carlile Institute is a beautiful historic building in the centre of Meltham village, close to Huddersfield and Holmfirth. The first floor Jubilee Room is an ideal setting for intimate concerts. There is a lift for accessibility, free parking directly behind the building and a bus stop right outside.
Advance tickets £10 at wegottickets.com (note 10% booking fee online). Paper tickets will also be available locally in Meltham.
